Barrydale is known as the Gateway to the Overberg. This peaceful
town, with its neat houses and large gardens, developed around the
church that was built at the pinnacle of the Tradouw Pass by the
residing boer-community. The town was named, or so the story goes,
after a certain Joseph Barry, or one of his family members. What is
known for a fact though, is that Barrydale is a famous farming
centre for apples, peaches, apricots and other soft fruit. There was
